Yuva Jamshedpur organizes ‘Mahila Haat’ in Chkari village

Optimized-Picture 034Jamshedpur: Yuva Jamshedpur, the leading social organization of Jamshedpur, organized a ‘Mahila Haat’ in Chakri village in Potka block of East Singhbhum district. Women members of different self-help groups exhibited and sold their agricultural products in this Mahila Haat.

The purpose of this haat was to provide an opportunity to the women farmers to showcase their hard work, products and to encourage them to have confidence and realize their inherent potential. Another purpose of the haat was to make the women farmers aware of different aspects of rural marketing, costs and methods of selling rural products.

This haat was organized with the help of GGF. Seven students of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, who are currently doing internship with Yuva Jamshedpur, also played an active role in organizing this Mahila Haat.

Yuva general secretary, Barnali Chakraborty, said that the huge sales in the haat has instilled confidence among the women peansants and seeing the success of this event, more such haats would be organized in future too. Besides, women farmers would also be encouraged in taking part in haats organized by other organizations too.

Social activists Anjali Bose and Alpana Bhattacharjee also participated in the Mahila Haat.

A special attraction in the Haat was the stall selling “Murge ka achhar”, which was prepared by the women peasants with the help of students from TISS. This special product drew huge number of buyers.

Those who played an important role in making this Mahila Haat a grand success included Arup Kumar Mandal, Chandmani Sawaiyan, Abhishek Sardar of Yuva and Emitrong Amry, Raga Ramesh, Christopher Vinay Nag, Indu Sarki, Swati Singh, Samiksha Todaria and Kanu Shikha Yadav.
