Jamshedpur: Kitchen gardening has got a new meaning and a new bunch of adopters in Potka – the Sabars. The members of primitive Sabars are now growing vegetables at their kitchen garden at Dhengam and Krarkocha villages in Potka block of East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand and have already started showing some degree of expertise in gardening. In their kitchen gardens, the members of Sabar tribe are growing different types of sag, papaya, sahjan, tomato as well as bananas.
As we know, most of the Sabars have been a victim of malnutrition owing to their special food habits and also because food is not easily available to them.
Sabars, normally, are not fond of vegetables and rarely eat pulses.
YUVA volunteers have been encouraging them to set up their own small kitchen gardens and adopt new food habits so that their nutrition level improves.
The persistent efforts have borne fruits and Sabars are now not only growing vegetables, but are also consuming them. Who says small efforts do not make much difference? See the difference!
